Mithila culture is lived, not displayed — at pond ghats at 4am, on wedding walls, in the thali. Maithili, Bhojpuri and Bajjika carry it.

Chhath — sun god on pond ghats, the soul of Madhesh. Vivaha Panchami — Ram-Sita wedding anniversary in Janakpur. Sama-Chakeba — brother-sister love. Jitiya — mothers' fast. Jur Sital — new year. Plus Durga, Kali, Saraswati Puja and Holi.
What to eat
Dahi-chura (curd + beaten rice) with jaggery in Magh. Machh — mustard fish curry. Dal-pitho, ghugni, tilkor tarua, bada-badee. Sweets: bagiya, pidakia, anarasa, makhan payas. Mango, litchi and makhana in season.
Wear, dance, make
Paag headdress — red for the groom, yellow for wedding guests, white for elders. Laal-paar saree, dhoti-kurta-gamchha. Dances Jhijhiya (lanterns balanced on heads) and Domkach (weddings). Crafts: Mithila painting, aripan floor art, Sikki grass baskets.

How it sounds
Temple bells at 5am, school bicycles by 9, heat that empties the bazaar 11–3, ponds busy at dusk. Maithili at home, Nepali at the office, Hindi at the border — nobody finds that strange.
